What is a visual inspection?

A visual inspection is a systematic examination of every accessible part of an electrical appliance - the cable, plug, fuse, casing, and any visible internal components. While it doesn't involve connecting the item to testing equipment, it catches the majority of the most common hazards: frayed cables, overheated plugs, cracked casings and makeshift repairs.

Visual inspections are an important part of any PAT testing regime and are required before any electronic test is carried out. Many businesses also use them as a cost-effective in-between check between full annual tests.

What's included

• Check of cable condition, including insulation, joints and connections
• Inspection of the plug - correct fuse rating, no signs of heat damage
• Examination of the appliance casing for cracks, burns or modifications
• Check for correct lead polarity and strain relief at plug and appliance
• Pass or fail result recorded for every item
• Physical PASS or FAIL tag applied on the day
• Digital certificate emailed within 48 hours

   You receive a full digital certificate listing every item, its result and the recommended retest date.
